For all of you who know me, or of me, or neither....there should be no question of my lack of skills and vocabulary of a professional writer. None the less, there is something I have to share with you. It's a characteristic of every small town across the country and why it's so interesting living in Munday, Texas...population, 1567 (or somewhere around that number).
Yesterday, we received word of the untimely death of a "Munday son". The family was well-known and highly respected but, as the passing of years will have it, family members have re-located and have lost contact. Having graduated with a sister of the "son", I felt it fitting to send a form of condolence to the family from our graduating class. I went to our local flower shop and told Perry what I was wanting but had no idea where to have the flowers sent. He said that he hadn't had any other requests and didn't know either. He said, "Why don't you ask Winters? She's a long time friend of the family and she can possibly give the information we need." I replied that I would give her a call when I got home.
As I started out the door, Perry said, "Oh, by the way, Winters is at the beauty shop getting her hair done!"
"Well"...I thought to myself, "as long as I'm out and about, I'll just run by the beauty shop and visit with her for a minute". Off I went to Diane's shop. I bounced in and looked around...didn't see Winters anyplace. I told Diane who I was looking for and she replied, "Oh, she came in early and has already gone!" I thanked Diane and left to get in the car. As I was about to back out, I saw Diane come running out of the shop waving her arm. I rolled down the window and she said, "Oh, I just remembered, Winters was going to the doctor when she left here".
"Well"...I thought to myself (again), "as long as I'm out and about, I'll just run by the clinic and see Winters there. So off I went to the Munday Clinic. I went inside and told the receptionist who I wanted to see and was told to sit down and she would be out shortly. I sat down and waited for about 15 minutes. When Winters came out of the patient room, I accosted her and told her what information I was needing. After all this running around, all she could tell me was that he lived 'somewhere' in East Texas. "But", she said, "his brother is back in one of the patient rooms waiting to see the doctor! You can ask him!!"
Not knowing why Garon was seeing the doctor (I'm sure that someone knew) , I thought "I'd better give this search up for the time being".
Now..."To The Point" of this post! Where else can you live where people know you, care for you, and know your every move? It may sound intrusive to many people but it's just part of living in Munday, Texas. I love it and want to preserve the closeness of our "Munday Family"...and, that's what we are: an extended family of 1567 (or, somewhere around that number!)
P.S. I got the information I needed by making a long distance call and using the internet!!
God Bless until next time.

U DID GOOD
Excellen column. This is a great human interest story. You have the ear and the knack for it, Jackie. Keep it up.
I was araid you headed to where Garon was and open the door and . . . whoops, shouldn't have done that. But I see you have matured in the craft of "go get it" news reporter.
