The Reason For The Season

O.K....so I haven't been in my usual state of excitement over the upcoming holidays. We've had a lot going on in our lives that has put gift buying, decorating, baking, and even blogging down near the bottom of the totem pole. But if it hadn't been for the "real reason for the season"...Jesus, we would have had a terrible month. He has seen us through.

We've been 'out of the loop', so to speak and haven't been aware of much that has been taking place around town. Yesterday, we got the Courier in the mail and I sat down to read the Santa letters. One child's letter took precedence over all the others. It read:

Dear Santa,
What I want for Christmas is for my Daddy to come home and stay forever.
Sincerely,
Ashleigh

I don't know Ashleigh or where her Daddy is...but I pray that she gets her Christmas wish.

After looking at the Santa letters, I turned over to the more newsy section of the paper. The first thing that hit my eye was a letter to the Editor. The letter said all there is to say about the season. Thank you dear little friend for writing this to our citizens of our wonderful little town. I love you.

Dear Editor:
I am writing this for the people who thought it to be cool or big of them to put signs up all over town about us not having any Christmas lights. My dad, Amanda and I were nearly finished decorating the downtown park when I found out about the signs posted in town. To tell you the truth, I wanted to take it all down. You people that feel free to run your mouth about people and things going on in Munday don’t really have any idea about what is really going on. If you were so upset about Christmas lights, why didn’t you volunteer to help like my dad and I did? Christmas is supposed to be a time of love and peace and remembering that the GREATEST gift of all was Jesus Christ. He is the true meaning of this wonderful season that we get to enjoy. All He asks of us is for us to love one another as He loves us. Christmas lights and decorations don’t make Christmas. We do. We don’t know what is going on in the lives of people., so therefore, if we are truly Christians and know the TRUE meaning of Christmas, we would be more than willing to help people out in times when they are busy or when they need help. I have to admit that I was upset that Munday didn’t have any decorations in the park. But instead of bashing the town and chamber for not having any, I decided to go to Amanda and ask if I could help. She was more than willing to receive mine and my dad’s help and was also very thankful. All we have to do is consider how we would feel and do the same for others that we would want them do for us. I was taught early in life the Golden Rule, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” If we all would help each other out, we could celebrate the feeling of Christmas year round. My Christmas wish this year is that the citizens of Munday would take a step back and look at what we have. We have a wonderful town and it is up to volunteers to help keep it this way. I hope that you realize what this kind of thing makes us as a town look like. I pray that this Christmas we all realize the true meaning of Christmas. We are here to help each other, not tear each other down. May you have a Merry Christmas and never forget the real REASON FOR THE SEASON….Jesus.
