Call Me Mildred!

I've always loved the story about two elderly women out driving in a large car. Both could barely see over the dashboard. As they were cruising along, they came to an intersection. The stoplight was red but they just went on through.

Grace, in the passenger seat thought to herself, "I must be losing it. I could have sworn we drove through that red light!"

They drove a few more minutes then came to another intersection. The light was red, and again they went right through. This time, Grace was almost sure that the light had been red, but was also concerned that she might be seeing things. She was getting nervous and decided to pay very close attention. At the next intersection, sure enough, the light was definitely red and they cruised right through it.

Grace turned to the other woman, Mildred, and said, "Mildred! Did you know that you ran through three red lights in a row? You could have killed us!"

Mildred turned to her and said, "Oh! Mercy! Am I driving?"

That's exactly how I feel at times, just like Mildred! Who's driving? Is that why I get out of sorts and lose direction for my life...because I'm driving? Yes, that's when things start going awry because I'm not a very good driver. And, like Mildred, I don't even realize it's me that's doing the driving!!

I don't want to be "behind the wheel" of my life. I don't want friends, family, circumstances, habits, or even my church family to be in control.

I want the Expert Driver controlling my life...the one that can maneuver the twists, turns, rough spots, and around the pit holes of life. I want to let God!

So why is it that I can answer to the name of Mildred?

Thanks for the good piece of writing. Four of my warships were located "27 traffic lights" from my home [I counted those lights several times]. I used to leave the house at approx 0330 [that is 3:30 AM], arriving at my parking spot at around 0400. Several times I could not remember HOW in the world I made it to that parking spot, I could not remember crossing any of those lights. I have no idea who was driving. Have a fine Texas weekend.
