A True Display of Optimism

Alright! Alright!
.
I haven't been inspired!
.
Sleepless nights are beginning to take their toll. A psychologist or psychiatrist might recommend "clearing my conscience" but I have no conscience to clear! (ha, ha!)
.
Seriously. On occasion, I go through about a week of inability to sleep at night. Then it all smooths out and I sleep like the proverbial log. I think it is a 'woman thing' having to do with misplaced, mixed up, running amok, hormones...or something of that nature.
.
But I did better better last night upon the advice of the SIL..."now I lay me down to sleep"....
.
I truly haven't been very inspired but I've wracked my picture files for something of semi-interest to post.
.
Back in the early part of the summer, I took a day trip with my friend to a neighboring town. When she completed her mission for the trip, we stopped at the neatest place you've ever seen. It was the main business in town....a combination pharmacy, general store, antique store. With a business like this, what other is needed?
.
In front of the store was this monster cactus!

This plant was awesome!
I decided to investigate a little farther and found that this gigantic growth was sitting in a 5 gallon bucket!
.
I marched myself into the store and asked one of the clerks about it. I was told that this cactus attracted many customers to their store...that it had been there for years and years and had never had any maintenance whatsoever!
.
WOW! This is the kind of plant I need!

So...very carefully, with the aid of paper towels and plastic bags, I broke off a couple of the leafs(?) Is that what they're called? Anyway, those things that are shaped like paddles. And talk about prickley stickers! Even being as careful as I could be, I still have one embedded in the end of my finger.

I came home and planted the two leafs in an old wash pot that we have in the back yard!
.
Sidenote: What is the plural of leaf? Leaves? Leafs? I need to utilize Mr. Webster!
.
Yep! It's beginning to sprout babies! Maybe one day, years and years from now, I'll have a cactus that looks like the first picture!
.
How's that for being optimistic?
.
Everybody have a great day!!

Good morning! The plural of leaf, that is a good test question.

It is QUIZ time!

If I remember correct, words ending in F or FE [usually] will change the F sound to V sound and [usually] add S or ES at the end.

Example:
wiFE = wives
leaF = leaves

End of quiz!

Have a fine TEXAS day!

Yes, I made a visit to Mr. Webster. Leaf as a noun, plural is leaves.

Thanks for the lesson and have a good day.

Big Cactus!

On the cactus in front of the store, I see a lot of those in California. We have a bunch of them in the back of our home, but, must be careful, they can take over the yard. Now, let me find the PLURAL of cactus! Have a fine Texas day.

Cactus

Inspired, I have no clue on this one. After checking the online dictionary, I believe all these to be correct:
cacti, cactuses, or cactus
Very strange. I need to go back to school for a refresher. Writing is becoming a challenge and it is taking me a long time to finish my posts after all the checking and re-checking. Late last night I posted a note on the lowest rated blog, had to delete it and start all over.
Have a fine Texas evening.

I always thought it was cacti ... but grammer isn't my best suit.

tlrb is right, cacti/cactuses can indeed take over a yard and they are really hard (and painful to get rid of.

cacti, cactuses it is...next time I write about them.

Lacking the 'green thumb', the thing will probably wither and die in a few months, anyway. If not, I'll get rid of it before it takes over!

But I really do like the looks of them, especially in bloom!

Thanks for the comment!

Have a good evening.

Wow. Thanks for sharing your cactus picture. It was fun to look at. Good luck growing your cactus. I hope it can be as fun as the one in the picture someday.
