The party's over....for everyone except the wedding couple. Their party is just beginning. I pray that it will last until death do them part. As I write, they are somewhere off in the Bahamas, riding out the tail winds of the tropical storm that ripped through there last week.
.
We left on Friday morning, taking the Beagle to Abilene to the Slammer. It is really inconvenient not having a good boarding kennel for pets in our area. So we do the next best thing and go the extra mile and use a Veterinary Clinic/Boarding facility. Regardless of what Butch says, it's really a nice place where he is well cared for and we don't worry about him.
.
The drive to the metroplex was uneventful and relaxing. Our two night reservation was at a Hilton Hotel where all family and out-of-town wedding party stayed. The staff and accommodations were absolutely awesome.
.
Friday night we attended the rehearsal and dinner. Highlight of the evening was a slide show of J and A's life from their birth to the present. Before it started, the grandson made his little speech and expressed his hope that everyone would enjoy the presentation....and that he "hoped" there would be no tears. Well......looking at those early pictures of him did bring a few teary eyed moments....for me, anyway.
.
A little story comes to mind. When he was a very young boy, he LOVED to go to family reunions and get to fish with his cousins. One summer, we were all loaded up, going to the lake for one of these famous family reunions. J wanted to ride with us. As we were riding along, he got quiet and in a while he said,
"You know what I wish?"
"What do you wish, J?"
"I wish the whole world was a big lake and everyone had their own fishing spot!"
That is just one of the many little stories that are so dear to grandparents.
We didn't see anymore of the wedding couple until time for the wedding on Saturday. As far as I know, everything went as planned and the ceremony was gorgeous. There was only one hitch! What would a wedding be if everything went perfect?
As the preacher introduced the new Mr. and Mrs....he said,
"May I now introduce you to Mr. and Mrs. JUSTIN U? Weeeellllll......if you've looked at the pictures of the previous post, the grandson's name isn't Justin!! Needless to say...that brought a few laughs and really embarrassed the preacher. (Justin, by the way, is the name of the bride's brother-in-law)
The reception/party afterwards was one to behold! I'm so thankful that the trend for sit-down dinners and dances have come about since our girls got married. We would still be paying!! And, one thing that I've observed in going to these wedding events. There are always many more people attending the party afterward than go to the wedding!
So goes the story of the wedding trip. I pray that the couple finds their spot on the lake of life and live happily ever after....

Good post and good luck to the newly wed couple. In ref to this one - There are always many more people attending the party afterward than go to the wedding! Yes, you are correct and it always happens. Guilty as charge, the last wedding I attended, I went directly to the party !!! Have a fine Texas morning.
cfs
You mean there is an actual ceremony prior to the party???
Geeez, I thought that was only in the movies.
We try to go to the weddings if we're going to attend the reception, but I see alot of people attending the party not even slightly dressed up- I can only imagine why they avoided the church service. Weddings & receptions fall into 3 catagories for us; Have to go, Want to go, and Will not go!
Perfection at a wedding is overrated. I'm so glad that they will have a story to tell for the rest of their married life. It will go down in family history.
I don't understand people who skip the wedding. If someone thinks enough of me in their life to invite me to their wedding, I'm very happy to share the whole of their special day.
Oh.. that was such a sweet post.
I love weddings! I always always always cry. Never fails.
I would NEVER miss the wedding and then go straight to the reception... never.....
I think that was a great story about the preacher... that will give them a chuckle forever.
crabby: Thank you! This is my prayer for them, also.
cfs and pc: Next wedding reception I attend I'll be on the lookout for these two slightly older gentlemen sitting to the side, engaged in conversation of politics! I'll laugh my head off thinking, "Yep...here they are...missed the wedding, but here for the party!"
buffalo: We, too, have a "have to go" this coming weekend...an even longer trip! Butch is going to be devastated!!
tim (thisisme) Thanks again for a great visit. Yes, in this day of technology of videos, that moment will be preserved FOREVER! It will become a precious memory for them.
terri: Wish you could have been there to share a hankie with me. That handsome young man is my first-born grandchild...the one that was born with a conehead and squooshed nose! He is a precious person!
He said the wrong name at the wedding? Awesome. I think little things like that always make a wedding better. Unless it's I'm the one who makes the mistake. Then I'm horrified.
the couple are back in dallas
and the cost of the wedding
is well worth our future retirement
///the prospect of grandchildren going to livestock shows is well worth it
sil
dd: yep....even preachers make mistakes...though some of them think they're above it.
s-i-l: Stockshows! That's exactly what yor f-i-l was thinking when his grandchildren started coming along! But this time....I'M thinking......GREAT GRANDMOTHER??
