Keeping Up

No matter how hard I try, I just can't seem to keep up.

Technology is changing by the minute. The political realm is changing. The way we shop and carry on business is changing. There has been a change in perception of right vs. wrong. Our whole world is changing, even as I write.

I just can't seem to keep up with it all. Is there anyone else that feels as I do?

I've just read a story by J. Grant Swank, Jr. that should make all of us feel better about our inadequacies.

I've omitted the first part of the story which was a lead-in to the crux of the issue of not being able to keep up. You can click on the link to read the whole story.

How many of us are crying inside because we look up to heaven and plead, “I can’t keep up.” I can’t keep up with God’s expectations, His commandments, holy principles, all the stipulations set forth in Scripture concerning being a Christian. I have a messed up past. My life at present is confusing. I am not what I would like to be. I am out of sorts today. I have been less than my best. I want to be wiser, perform better.

.
We see others in the believing community who seem to have it made. They are on top of things. They are always sparkly, happy and smiling. They are filled with miraculous stories. God seems to be near them all the time.

.
But--we--well, we just can’t keep up. We want to cry. We want to hide our heads in our arms and not see everyone else making such joyous sounds in their souls. Sometimes we even want to give up so we can leave the class altogether.

.
Have you ever thought that? Have you ever cried like that into the dark? Have you ever couched your face into your arms so as to cup those tears into the sleeves of life? No doubt you have, for we are all rather fragile and undone. Most of us are fighting quite the daily battle. And sometimes we are cracked up over it all--a bit shabby. That no doubt includes you.

.
Do you then realize something quite precious? It is that there is a heavenly Teacher who is crouched down alongside you--at heart level. He cares about you. He really does. He knows how frail you are, how perplexing life can become, and how unnerving your earthly journey can be.

.
Yes, yes, yes, He really does. The Bible says so. You see, that Word says that God is love. That means that that Teacher whispers into your ears right now: “Tell me all about it. I understand. Let me help you keep up. In fact, the rest of us will slow down a bit in order for you to find your pace with the rest of the class. Really, you are loved, very much, very very much.”

.
Do you believe that? It really is true. Listen. Listen closely. Now do you hear the Teacher? He is at heart level--right now.

.
You can hear Him if you will listen very closely. He says to you, “I will help you catch up. In the meantime, I love you anyway.”

.
Really.

I hope that next time I'm feeling inadequate and perplexed about the world around me, I'll remember that The Teacher is right beside me saying..."Tell me all about it...I'll help you keep up."

Peace to your household...
