"Let Us Entertain You?"

One needs to be creative and ingenuous to find entertainment in My Hometown. We have no movie theaters, no shopping malls, no minature golfing facilities, and "no" of anything else that larger cities have to offer. There are three major shopping areas on which we depend. One of these is 75 miles to the south of us, one is 75 miles to the east, and the other is 150 miles to the west. You would be surprised how much money my husband and I have saved since we moved "back home to stay"!!

Needless to say, we are remotely located. But, for those who wish to stay busy, there is plenty to do. There is always someone who is needing transportation to a doctor. We do have a family practice doctor here who takes care of all of us. But there are so many dire, medical problems that need the attention of specialists in the larger cities. Most of these are elderly people who have no family near to help them out. And then, there's the usual community and county organizations in which to be involved.

But, let me get back to the real topic of this post....Entertainment!! Without exception, the majority of the entertainment revolves around the atheletic programs of the school...Friday night football to be exact. During the fall season, "Friday Night Lights" are common, not only to our town, but all rural towns across the United States.

The school gymnasium and auditorium house the majority of our events. Recently, we were honored to have the Albany Mainstreet Players to come and perform their production of "Always....Patsy Cline". One has to be of a certain age to remember Patsy Cline. During the time that tickets were being sold for this event, there were comments made like..."Who in the world is Patsy Cline?" For those of us that do remember, this was a memorable evening. From the back of the auditorium, looking across those attending, you could see the smiles and nods of remembrance from a sea of grey hair and aging skin. For you young readers out there, the closest anyone has come to the sound of Patsy Cline is LeAnne Rimes when she recorded "Blue" in 1996.

Life in My Hometown....it's great! It is, it was, and will be. I thank God for my beginning here and bringing me back to enjoy my retirement years. "The Lord has done great things for me"!

I want to hear more about this remarkable little town that contributed to the heritage of the North Central Texas area.
