There has been a death in My Hometown. The news of the death began to circulate by word of mouth two weeks ago. But, it was made public in this week's local paper, the Munday Courier. The obituary of a friend through many generations, was given front page billing. It has come as a 'blow in the head' to our community...the closing of our Smith Drug Store. This means the loss of our pharmacy and gift center. Even though the store was sold two years ago, the family name was retained.
I can't tell you what year Smith Drug was established. All I know is that it has been a part of Munday all my life. My dad was working for "Pop" Smith as a plumber/electrician when I was four years old. Though there have been face-liftings, re-modeling, and up-grading through the years, it has always remained "Smith Drug".
In my profile, I stated that this is a journal of a small town struggling to remain alive. "We won't give up, we won't give in, and, hopefully, we won't give out." In the next few months, we'll find out to what degree is our "true grit".
God is still on His throne. In His appearance to Solomon, the Lord said:
"if my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray, and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land."
I believe this includes healing from the closing of a long time business or healing from a severe drought in our area. It is time, dear Readers...time for God to be brought back into the center of our lives. God bless us all.
