"As Time Goes By"

There are words of wisdom that never grow old. No matter how old, they are always relevant to current times; for instance, the Holy Word of God. The inspired words of God were recorded over 2000 years ago and they'll never die. There are also timeless words of wisdom from the secular world. I was reminded of this just this very morning. I opened my e-mail program and had a link to a midi of "As Time Goes By". You all know this as the theme song from "Casablanca", screened in 1942. Words and music to this song were written by Herman Hupfeld, 1931. Of course, it was written as a love song depicting the love between a man and woman. But, as I've thought about it, it can apply to a love relationship that I hold for My Hometown. It may have been a very long time since you've heard the lyrics to this beautiful, timeless song. I want to share them with you.
"As Time Goes By"
This day and age we're living in
Gives cause for apprehension
With speed and new invention
And things like fourth dimension.
Yet we get a trifle weary
With Mr. Einstein's theory.
So we must get down to earth at times
Relax relieve the tension.
And no matter what the progress
Or what may yet be proved
The simple facts of life are such
They cannot be removed.
You must remember this
A kiss is just a kiss, a sigh is just a sigh.
The fundamental things apply
As time goes by.
And when two lovers woo
They still say, "I love you."
On that you can rely
No matter what the future brings
As time goes by.
Moonlight and love songs
Never out of date.
Hearts full of passion
Jealousy and hate.
Woman needs man
And man must have his mate
That no one can deny.
It's still the same old story
A fight for love and glory
A case of do or die.
The world will always welcome lovers
As time goes by.
