WHAT IS YOUR "TRUE NORTH"?
There was a movie a while back, I think it was Jerry McGuire, in which one person said to the other that they were their "true North". In other words, they were what kept them grounded and pointed in the right direction through all things they faced. I used a compass recently with the children in one of our children's sermons to show how it always pointed North so that one could find their direction wherever they were. There are lots of things in life that we can put our trust in and follow, but there is only ONE that will always be right. GOD Himself needs to be the "compass" for our lives.
One of my favorite verses in the Old Testament in Jeremiah 33:3. It's even been put into a beautiful chorus that can be sung. It simply repeats what God says to us, "Call unto Me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things that you do not know." Or as the King James older English says in the chorus in a beautiful language, "Call unto Me and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not." That is a PROMISE of God to us. IF we will call upon Him, trusting Him as the "true North" of our lives, He promises to answer us and show us the direction for our lives.
I also like Proverbs 3:5-6. It is another great promise of God along these same lines. Listen to it.
Proverbs 3:5-6 --Trust in the LORD with all your heart,And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,And He shall direct your paths. NKJV This is another great promise God gives us, but as most of them in His Word, it is conditional. He says to FIRST of all trust Him with all your heart, and NOT look to things of yourself. Acknowledge Him, put Him first in your life, and THEN He promises to direct your paths. That means He will give you the RIGHT direction to go, and in the Hebrew language, it literally says He will "make your paths straight". Think about that one for a minute.
God is saying He will not only give you the right direction to go as a great compass in your life, but He will make your paths straight. Haven't you ever said that it would be nice to see what was around the next bend in life, or at least something along that line? There are MANY "bends in the road of life" around which we can't see. We don't know what lies ahead of us around the next curve in the road, but HE DOES. And He will guide us, prepare us, strengthen us, and help us in whatever we face in life IF we are trusting Him instead of ourselves or anything else of this old world. PLUS, get this, He will go WITH us along that road of life every step of the way! You just can't beat a deal like that!
So are YOU fully trusting Him today for all the "bends in the road of life" that come your way? If so, you can count on the fact that He will guide you like a compass, show you the right ways to go, strengthen you along the way, AND go with you through whatever you face. Jesus said it well when He said "I am with you ALWAYS" in Matthew 28 as He gave us the Great Commission. And God also says in Hebrews 13:5 (as well as several other spots in the Old Testament), "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Trust Him today; Call upon Him consistently so that He can show you great and mighty things all along the way.
Blessings to you and yours today,
