Don't Say Good-bye...Say, Later!

While growing up in Munday, I had many friends. In thinking back, everybody had many friends…after all, we grew up in Munday, Texas! Everybody might not have been “best” friends but more like brothers and sisters. We would have our disagreements, entanglements, and snarls. But, when push came to shove, we hung in there together.

I had one particular friendship that lasted over 55 years. As teen-agers, we were in church activities, school activities, but the most enjoyment we had together was our experiences in our High School Band. Both of us dearly loved playing in the band. She played a mean sax and I played a ‘fairly mean’ clarinet. Playing in the jazz band, lovingly known as “The Mogul Madkats”, we had many good experiences. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and played “The Wedding March” at my wedding.

After graduation, we went our separate ways. We would see each other at Homecomings and class reunions, but miles separated us. Upon my and my husband’s retirement, we moved ‘back home to stay’. And who do you think was here to greet me? It was my friend and her husband who had moved home, also.

We enjoyed their company for a couple of years and then her husband had to make a job move. The town where they moved is not terribly distant so, on occasion, we would get to visit with them.

Through the years, my friend developed numerous health problems…diabetes being the major. For the past 5 years, she has been wheelchair bound. But she never lost her faith, her humor, nor her love for music.

Saturday night, she went to sleep and didn’t wake up. Today we all said our “so-longs, we’ll see you laters”. Anita is in Glory as I write…no longer in pain nor confined to a wheel-chair. She is with Jesus, and probably dancing for Him….or, at least, taken over a harp of one of the heavenly angels to show “how it’s done!”

She can say with Paul, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7.

So, I'm not saying good-bye, Anita! Just saying...later.

And, a blessing for you, my readers…”The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you.”
2 Timothy 4:22

I'm sorry to hear about Anita's death.
Boy, do I remember the Madkats. Ya'll had a good thing there. Do you know about any of the others?
You are doing good. That was a good tribute to Anita.
Keep up the good work.

What a beautiful tribute to your friend. I am sorry I never knew her. I count it a privilege to have been a part of her wonderful funeral service. I hope all who knew her and loved her were blessed!
