"The Ant and the Grasshopper"

Today has been one of those early summer days when I think, "Gosh! It's so beautiful outside, I need to get out and do something"....like start cleaning out my storage building. Then, when I get out, I think, "Gosh! I don't want to do anything today" so I wind up watching an ant bed in the front yard. These little creatures are scurrying hither and yon, carrying all sorts of interesting things back to their nests. It's awesome to watch these little busy bodies! I was reminded of the Aesop Fable of the "The Ant and the Grasshopper".

Yes, winter will be upon us before we know it. All the things that I had planned to do this summer will probably still be undone. And then I'll say, "Well...I'll get it done next summer!"

The Ant and the Grasshopper

In a field one summer's day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart's content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.
"Why not come and chat with me," said the Grasshopper, "instead of toiling and moiling in that way?"

"I am helping to lay up food for the winter," said the Ant, "and recommend you to do the same."
"Why bother about winter?" said the Grasshopper; we have got plenty of food at present." But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil.

When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing, every day, corn from the stores they had collected in the summer.

Then the Grasshopper knew:
It is best to prepare for the days of necessity.

I, like you, am attempting projects that need to get done before the summer is over. On my list is a horid storage room out back. Lord, give us strength and motivation.
