In My Hometown there are many people who are dog lovers, especially among people whose children have grown up and moved away from home. Finding yourself in ‘an empty nest’ after years of activity around the house, can become quite lonely. What to do? Get a puppy!
We have a 5 year old Beagle who is the KING around our house...definitely the lead dog in our pack! Not only do we love him but he loves us in return.
The only trouble with having a dog is that it limits your “on-the-spur-of-the-moment” trips. There are people who don’t share the same feelings about your dog (I can't imagine!!) , so your puppy needs to be boarded for the duration of your trip.
For the past 5 years, when we’ve found it necessary to travel, we have boarded our Butch in Abilene at the Pampered Pet Inn. Our family has teased us about “all roads go through Abilene”…no matter what route we were taking . We formed a great respect for the employees there and knew that our KING was being well cared for.
We are planning a 4 day trip to Houston, and, while in Abilene, we were going to make arrangements for boarding. When we arrived at what was Pampered Pet Inn, we found the building ghostly quiet and empty!! We couldn’t imagine what could have happened!
Using our cell phone, Hubby called the Pampered Pet Inn number. He was directed to call another number. What we found out is an awesome thing! The three young women that had taken care of our Butch at PPI is in the process of developing a canine resort! We found our way to the new place and was met by Christy, one of the joint owners. In our visit with her, we found our mouths gaping most of the time, at the extensive plans for this business.
My next post will be “On Command Canine Resort” in Abilene, Texas. I have an admiration for these girls and their “gutsy” venture. I pray that they rely on God’s guidance and that He blesses their endeavor.
