This Canine Resort area is going to be the "hot spot" of Abilene in the near future...something that is talked about and admired. Watch for them as they are featured on news media!!
The following information was provided by Christy Couch. What plans the girls have!!
Quick Facts:
*Head Honchos: Annette Turner, Christy Couch and Karen McAbee (pronounced mac-a-bee)
*Address and Phone: 401 Loop 322, Abilene, TX 79601 (325)672-7552
*Started on June 1, 2006
*On the property are 2 lakes: Lake Devlin (about 15 acres) and Lilly Lake (about 3 acres). There is a picture titled "Private Lake"....that is Lilly Lake now!
*Entire 47-acre facility and amenities projected to be 90% complete by the end of 2007
*We offer boarding, training and agility, doggie dance classes, and a youth dog club. We also have a banquet room for parties/functions available for rental.
***Upcoming: Abilene's first dog park, hiking trails, 16-acre dog show site, pet massage therapy and water therapy, frisbee yards, lure course yards, Spirit Island Amusement Park, RV parking, the Dog Paw Cafe (outdoor dining with your dogs), and memberships. Memberships will include pool access, fishing, and many other parts of the resort. The memberships will be available as soon as we complete the amenities included therein.
*The dog park is non-profit and we hope to count on the surrounding communities to help support the park. We have different sponsorship levels available for those who are interested. I have included a picture of the paw prints on the driveway (the paw prints are painted on the driveway as part of on of our sponsorship levels). Those who are interested in any of the sponsorship levels may contact myself or Annette at the office. But, as I said, any amount will help! Even donations of materials, labor, or the like are welcome! We will have a few major fundraisers throughout the year as well.
*We are building the country's first doggie amusement park (Spirit Island Amusement Park), which is situated on Lake Devlin. The amusement park will include a roller coaster, permanent dog maze, digging yard, and more!
*We are turning the kitchen area into a little restaurant and the dining area will be out on the patio and in the grass area. We haven't decided whether to use wood decking or rock for the flooring out there. But, the Dog Paw Cafe will allow for outdoor dining with your pups. I think the way we will operate the cafe will be open menu for lunch and reservations and specific meals for dinners. The Dog Paw Cafe is still in the brainstorm stage though.
*We will also (later down the road) have a gift shop with pet accessories and the like. We will hit the media as we complete projects.
*We will constantly hold a variety of events all year for the canine enthusiasts and will hit the media with dates. We will also have event calendars located at the front lobby of OCCR. If anyone is interested in getting a calendar and can't make it by, we will be more than happy to fax or e-mail one to them.
*This is a question we have been asked a lot since we closed Pampered Pet Inn......Are we still associated with or work with Rescue the Animals? The answer is no. At Pampered Pet Inn, we were only an adoption center to house animals in need of homes. We are no longer associated in any way with Rescue the Animals.
This is the sponsorship drive at the entrance as you drive through the gate. The paw print for Butch isn't there yet, but hopefully in the near future, it WILL be!
This is The Bridge to Build on Driveway to the main building.
The Main Building.
This building is HUMONGOUS. I wish I could remember what it previously housed but our visit was so 'lively and quick', I missed a lot that we were told.
