Boris....WHO?

I was reading a blog this afternoon (imagine that!) about T.V. shows that the author had watched as a young kid. At the end of her post, she asked the question..."What T.V. shows were your favorites as a young child?"
*
Well....ROFL (roll on floor laughing!!) When I was a kid I listened to a machine called a RADIO!
One of our favorite programs, as we gathered around the radio every Monday night was a mystery program....Inner Sanctum!
*
For those of you who have no clue as to what I'm talking about, I googled up Inner Sanctum and this is the electrifying information that was given:
*
INNER SANCTUM MYSTERIES
Taking its name from a popular series of mystery novels, Inner Sanctum Mysteries debuted over NBC’s Blue Network in January 1941.
*
Inner Sanctum Mysteries featured one of the most memorable and atmospheric openings in radio history: an organist hit a dissonant chord, a doorknob turned and the famous “creaking door” slowly began to open.
*
Every week, Inner Sanctum Mysteries told stories of ghosts, murderers and lunatics. Produced in New York, the cast usually consisted of veteran radio actors, with occasional guest appearances by such Hollywood stars Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre and Claude Rains.
*
What made Inner Sanctum Mysteries unique among radio horror shows was its host, a slightly-sinister sounding man originally known as “Raymond.” The host had a droll sense of humor and an appetite for ghoulish puns, and his influence can be seen among horror hosts everywhere, from the Crypt-Keeper to Elvira. Raymond Edward Johnson was the show’s host until 1945; Paul McGrath took over the role until the show left the air in 1952. Producer Hiram Brown would utilize the creaking door again in the 1970s, when he produced and directed The CBS Radio Mystery Theater.
*
Inner Sanctum Mysteries was inducted into the Radio Hall of Fame in 1988.

That is funny girl.....

My mom talks about how they listened to the radio, too.

Actually... we love "talk radio"...
Rush.... Hannity... Glenn Beck...
Focus on the Family...
Raul Ruiz (he's great BTW)

boom-chica on creation...

...as for this post it's Greek to me.

Greek....just as it will be to all people your age and younger. More than likely a person will need to be over 50 years of age to even relate to the word..."radio"...much less it being the sole entertainment!

Will you stop coming to my blog if I ever remove the BQ? (lol)

Hey, Tam!

I forgot to tell you that after so long (I don't know how long) the BQ will start re-runs! When you start "booming" on all of them, I'll remove it and find another one!

I may need to repeat a few of those quizzes. I seem to be doing poorly. Hadn't had a boom-chica-wah-wah since I don't know when???

Jackie said...

OH.MY.GOODNESS!! I had it backwards! I was thinking "boom" was the 100%!!

Nothing wrong with me except that I have lapses in memory!!

I wish!

I like radios. I am a lapsed Amateur Radio Operator (Ham Radio). My license is still valid, it just has been years since I have actually used it. It was fun as a kid sitting there on my dad's radio talking to people in Japan and the Virgin Islands. And like Terri, I listen to more talk radio than music radio.
