Meaning of America

In a recent post, I mentioned a "quote" from a movie that was made by a congressman (who, by the way, is a candidate for president)
.
The S-I-L picked up on the word "quote" and began posting quotes in the comment section. It didn't have a lot to do with the subject of the post but we had a good time with it.
.
He posted one that is extremely meaningful for current times by a WWII hero and later movie celebrity....Audie Murphy.
.

"The true meaning of America, you ask? It's in a Texas rodeo, in a policeman's badge, in the sound of laughing children, in a political rally, in a newspaper... In all these things, and many more, you'll find America. In all these things, you'll find freedom. And freedom is what America means to the world. And to me.”---Audie Murphy
.

What does America mean to you?

Our priveledge, our right, and our duty to keep America a democracy by the people and for the people.

I believe in the United States of America as a Government of the People, by the People, for the People; whose just powers are derived from the consent of the governed; A democracy in a republic, a sovereign Nation of many Sovereign States; a perfect Union, one and inseparable; established upon those principles of Freedom, Equality, Justice, and Humanity for which American Patriots sacrificed their Lives and Fortunes.

I therefore believe it is my duty to my country to Love it; to Support its Constitution; to obey its laws; to Respect its Flag; and to defend it against all enemies.

There are so many things that America means to me. I get chills when I hear America the Beautiful, The Nationa Anthem,& Lee Greenwood singing America.
I believe the way our Country seems to be heading that we need to pray without ceasing for it to continue as we know it .
May God Bless America & Matthew

My hope and prayer is that everyone know and love our country for what she really is and what she stands for. May we nurture her strengths and strengthen her weaknesses so that she will always be a "Land of the Free, and Home of the Brave."

John Wayne says everything I would like to say!

America...
You ask me Why I Love Her?
Well, give me time and I'll explain.

Have you seen a Kansas sunset
or an Arizona rain?
Have you drifted on a bayou
down Louisiana way?
Have you watched a cold fog drifting
over San Francisco Bay?

Have you heard a bobwhite calling in the Carolina pines,
Or heard the bellow of a diesel at the Appalachia mines?
Does the call of Niagara thrill you when you hear her waters roar?
Do you look with awe and wonder at her Massachusetts shore,
Where men who braved a hard new world first stepped on Plymouth's rock?
And do you think of them when you stroll along a New York City dock?

Have you seen a snowflake drifting in the Rockies, way up high?
Have you seen the sun come blazing down from a bright Nevada sky?
Do you hail to the Columbia as she rushes to the sea,
Or bow your head at Gettysburg at our struggle to be free?

Have you seen the mighty Tetons?
Have you watched an eagle soar?
Have you seen the Mississippi roll along Missouri's shore?
Have you felt a chill at Michigan when on a winter's day
Her waters rage along the shore in thunderous display?
Does the word "Aloha" make you warm?
Do you stare in disbelief
When you see the surf come roaring in at Waimea Reef?

From Alaska's cold to the Everglades, from the Rio Grande to Maine,
My heart cries out, my pulse runs fast at the might of her domain.
You ask me Why I Love Her?
I've a million reasons why:
My beautiful America, beneath God's wide, wide sky

Inspired et al

Thanks for your inspirational posts. America is not a perfect place. Americans are not perfect. But, there is no other place on this planet like America.

It was very emotional to see warships from other nations [including France] flying OLD GLORY on their main mast each time we were steaming together in the middle of the broad open ocean. A symbol of respect and friendship.

For those not familiar with Audie Murphy, please check the attached link and read a short bio about a man who represented the best of America.

Have a fine TEXAS day.

Inspired I have sent this to you before, but another Audie Murphy

WAR & AND PEACE

Dusty old helmet, rusty old gun,

They sit in the corner and wait--

Two souvenirs of the Second World War

They have withstood the time, and the hate.

Many times I’ve wanted to ask them--

and now that we’re here all alone,

Relics all three of along ago war--

Where has freedom gone?

Mute witness to a time of much trouble,

Where kill or be killed was the law--

Where these implements used with high honor?

What was the glory they saw?

Freedom flies in your heart like an eagle.

Let it soar with the winds high above

Among the spirits of soldiers now sleeping,

Guard it with care and love.

I salute my old friends in the corner.

I agree with all they have said.

I agree if the moment of truth comes tomorrow,

I’ll be free, of By God, I’ll be dead!
