I spend a lot of time reading other writers blogs, several of which are political and social issue blogs. These bloggers do a lot of research and are very knowledgeable about current issues.
.
I don't understand much of what I read but I'm trying to increase my awareness of what's going on in the world and how outcomes will ultimately affect us right here in our hometown. It's so easy to sit here in our little isolated world and ignore the huge problems that are getting worse with each day that passes.
.
I suppose my lack of knowledge of politics has come from my concern from the lack of spiritual concerns of our people, especially in my little hometown.
.
In fact, that's one of the reasons I began blogging in the first place...to make others aware of the need to have a well grounded relationship with our Creator. As it has turned out, I have very few readers from home. When you see someone every day or two, or at least know that you could if you so desired, it doesn't seem very important to read what they have to say on an on-line journal.
.
All of this said to get to the point of this post...
.
This morning, I was reading a post written by a political blogger...subject and names aren't important to this post. The following comment was made;
.
"One phony soldier who claimed to have seen a lot of battle action in the war had washed out of the army in a little over forty days. In other words he never even made it out of boot camp."
.
The boot camp phrase hit me! In my spiritual life, I've never even made it out of BOOT CAMP!
I'm no better than the phony politicians and what they expound.
.
There are so many lessons to be learned... God-things that are critical in our world today...even in our mundane lives of our little town.
.
The answers to all our questions are in the Spirit-breathed words of God. It is the duty of Christians to delve into the Word and find the answers.
.
This is why I say I haven't made it out of boot camp! I can find all kinds of reasons not to have time for study. Shame on me! I need to spend more time in reading God's word than I do in reading the political blogs.
.
It has become important to me to learn...politically, socially, spiritually...not necessarily in that order. And, I believe it's pleasing to God that I do so. It's up to me to find a balance that will be beneficial to my lifestyle.
.
Rambling done. Thanks for reading.

Inspired You have graduated from boot camp with honors. Now do a little sucking up & start getting those promotions.
It's not the lost in the world that's causing a lot of the problem. It is the lack of concern by the Christians ,I included.
I can always depend on you to speak in my defense...deserved or not. That's what Southern Friends are for...
It's my opinion and point of view that earth is boot camp. And graduation can't be achieved as long we're inhabiting these earthly bodies.
Perhaps a nugget of food for thought. (Tastes like chicken.)
tricia...What a nugget! That's what I love about blogging...getting the thoughts of other people!! Thanks for your nugget and ya know....you're probably right!
WOW!!
oh, yes, tricia! But that still doesn't excuse us from our duty of study of God's Word!! (at least that's my conviction!)
Thanks again for your input!!
Learning about politics and studying the Word of God do not need to be mutually exclusive. In fact to fully understand politics, a deep understanding of religion is required. Even secular Democracies are based on the principals of the religions of the founders. In our case it is Judeo-Christian, in the case of Turkey it is Islam for Nepal it is Buddaism.
So, keep reading the political blogs (especially mine) but don't neglect God ... we want our children to be "well-rounded" why choose less for ourselves?

Good morning from the West Coast [good to see some rain in the area today]. Thanks for another good post, I come to your blog to get some inspiration. I survived military boot camp over 3 decades ago, but that was a cake-walk when compared to what I learned AFTER leaving the military boot camp [I learned that you are never too senior to learn]. Have a fine TEXAS day!
cfs
I survived Infantry Boot Camp myself and it was an
experience I’ll never forget, it turned me from a boy to a man. Thanks for your words. i always enjoy reading your blog.

Seek ye first the kingdom of God...
...then all the other things shall be added unto you. I think I learned that from studying...tehe. My priorities need rearranging quite frequently. Thanks for the reminder!
No Prophet is respected in her own land
24"I tell you the truth," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown
Wow!! your quite hard on yourself aren't you????-----Don't be---Your fine.To me the biggest hurdle is to take what you read and have FAITH that it is what's happening. I had so many question, but once I stopped the questions and accepted through faith that certain things were, I was at rest or more than not....Make sense.???? The more one learns historically, I think, the better one can relate to a reading. The computer has been a God send as it relate to Theology. Of course all religions and denomination, or sects have dogma. Some more than others, just reading on your own will open many doors and answer questions when you least expect it. I am more wayward than most practicing christians, but I try....
I like your analysis of Basic Training...Excellent post....I ramble...stay well....
paul: No...I'll not neglect God! That's for sure and certain. I feel strongly that the answers to all our woes are found within His Word. But, I've found that I've got to make myself aware of what the "woes" actually are...hence, the interest in politics and social issues that are arising at an alarming rate. Back to drawing the line.....
