The first-in-the-nation Jan. 3 Iowa caucuses are today, and you may be wondering what all the fuss is about — and what exactly is a caucus, anyway? Maybe a few of you have been as 'out of touch' with reality as I have.
.
Until this year, I've NEVER paid any attention to the dirty word politics. Well....just because I'm interested now, doesn't make the word any cleaner. In fact, I've found that it has become dirtier...if that's possible; made dirtier only by the media and mudslinging candidates.
.
The caucuses don't pick presidents, but they do reveal unexpected strengths and weaknesses of presidential candidates.
.
Tonight's Iowa caucuses are set to shake up what has become a too-close-to-call presidential nominating contest for both the Democrats and Republicans.
.
Knowing the Iowa caucuses could make or break their candidacy, many Democratic and Republican frontrunners are throwing everything they've got at the Hawkeye State.
.
So what does all this have to do with "For The Love Of Home", you ask?
.
Like I told the Queen Mother of our two small grandchildren. The outcome of this presidential debacle determines the future of those two little ones. At best, the life that she has always known and the freedoms that have been exercised are at stake.
.
This presidential race is no different than any other since the beginning of our nation but with each one, less and less emphasis has been placed on the importance of study and gathering information on how the candidates stand on issues of which hold the most importance.
.
Our nation has been in a drugged sleep for years and I'm fearful that it's not going to be the kiss of a prince to awaken it.
Shame on me! Shame that I've let so many years elapse without being truly interested in my beloved Home...America.
.
Today, I pray God's blessings on the Iowa Caucuses.

It feels a lot like most of the world has started caring about politics in their own country, and also in yours over the last months.
I have to admit I will be watching your elections with interest.
Inspired
Good post. You are not going to be the only one watching Iowa. I will be watching. And oh by the way, like the rest of the politicos aficionado I have no idea WHO will win on the Republican or on the Democratic side in Iowa, and the winners will have momentum on their side heading to New Hampshire, but the real test will be on Super-Duper Tuesday February 5th 2008. We shall see if cfs was right on Edwards and Romney as the gold medalists on each party !!!
Have a fine Texas day.
Inspired, I don't think whoever wins in Iowa is going to matter much. More often than not, the front runner in Iowa doesn't get the gold ring. As for you saying shame on yourself for taking so long to take an interest in politics, you probably are doing better than more than half the population of this country. Americans have become self-absorbed, spoiled and just a little bit too lazy (okay... a lot to lazy) and don't seem to care much about anything else other than their own comfort. You woke up and should pat yourself on the back for doing so.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
By the way, I just heard on Fox News that Thompson denies he's going to drop out. The rumour circulating through the press that he's about to drop out was a planted story!
tim: Thanks for your interest. This is an exciting time in the world of politics. I just don't know whether I'm ready for it or not. (lol) We'll see what happens!
cfs: I'll be looking forward to your predictions! thanks for the political mentoring...
gayle: Thank you for your visit to my humble home! I have much to learn about the political process and I've promised myself I'll learn as much as I can. I'll be watching your blog, along with the others, and learning from you....
I had heard the report about Thompson earlier today and my first thoughts were...."You wimp!!" I'm glad it was just a planted story!!
Amen, great post. We should all care enough to learn about the candidates and choose the one we think will do the job.
BAH! Pay attention to local politics. It matters more.
inspired we all need to take a closer look at our politicians & hold them accountable . Most of them you can not know what they believe in unless you study hard & long. I still think Thompson is the man for the job, I like his conservative ideas & he seems to hold a belief in a strict interpretation of the constitution
sharon:
Glad you stopped by! There's a lot of study and research that needs to be done on political issues. I've found out that things are not always as they first appear. Most people have other interests and don't have time for it. Stop by anytime!! (love your blog...)
Dorky: Yep! I agree! It's the local politics that's the beginning of all the mess we're in nationally. And, I'm speaking from experience. Our little town is the epitome of rotten politics. But, as one, I can't fight 'city hall'. All I can do is try to make people aware of their responsibilites through www.blogging!
crabby: You're my main mentor when it comes to right political choices. You've been "in the trenches" so to speak. I'm with you but there's a lot of work that needs to be done. I hope he doesn't get discouraged enough to give up the fight. Thanks for your continued support.
