Peace to your house!
I love a fireplace....
with a roaring, blazing fire!
I've often wished we had a real, burning fireplace....one to warm first one side of your body, and then the other; one to sit by and meditate; one to sit by with beloved family or friends, eating homemade biscuits dripping with honey and swapping tales... some true, many contrived.
As time passes and we get a little older, with less inclination to do more work than we have to, I am more inclined to think..."Maybe a fireplace isn't the thing to have at this stage of our life." There's wood to purchase! (We're certainly not going to go out and cut our own!); there are ashes of which to dispose; there's the maintenance of the flues; and various and sundry other issues that I don't even know about.
So, contentment has settled in...contentment with an artificial fireplace. It's cute and....electric! It even crackles and pops a little just for the sensory pleasure of the human ear.
I was sitting and contemplating all this and found myself thinking about the artificiality of things in life that have become so common place that we've begun to think of them as "The Real Thing".
Artificial fire places.
Artificial Christmas trees.
Artificial flowers and shrubbery.
Artificial sweeteners.
Artificial Christianity.
Artificial this and artificial that!
What is the artificiality in your life that has taken place of 'the real thing'?
and again,
Peace to your house!

Long have I debated "Is perception reality?" It is a deeper question than I first thought...
I love a good open fire - and I could use that right now.
The question I've been asked - are my blog friends real friends when I don't know their real names and we've never spoken or met? I think so.
I have a real open fireplace, we dont always use it cos this little cottage also has central heating..... but, its the most wonderful soul warming thing to pile the logs and coal on the fire... it makes me feel safe LOL..... and we roast chestnuts on a old antique chestnut pan.... I would never ever buy a house without a chimney or an open fireplace :)...
Trying to think if I have 'articialness' in me house.... if I find something, I'll get back to ya :)

Saw you at marmies, so thought I'd pop over for a nose. I have a real fire and love it, especially this time of year. I have gas heating as well so its only really used when its cold. Can't think of anything artificial in my home,my pet hate is artificial flowers.
Lovely blog you have here.
I KNOW A OLD BOY THAT HAS A FIREPLACE, HAULS THE ASHES ,PLENTY OF WOOD & MAKES A MEAN BISCUIT THAT WILL MAKE YOU WANT TO SLAP YOUR MAMA PLUS HE'S REAL GOOD @ TELLING TALES, HAS THE TALE TELLING DOWN TO A SCIENCE.

Thank you for your kind wish of peace and for your kind comment at my place.
I have artificial flowers, and I'm trying to chang my small 60s ranch into an artifical cottage inside by adding trims, colors and other cottage-y treatments.
inspired, I love a fireplace. I haven't had a real one for 22 years. Right now it is snowing hard with 6 inches already fallen...I could use a fireplace. thank God I have a warm house. Now when I was younger, you spoke of a fireplace to toast one side of you then you turn and do the other..I used a cordwood stick to place in the oven and keep warm that way....times have changed...stay well.....
Buff: I've thought about this myself. Sometimes I think "yes" and sometimes "no". That's why I stay in a state of confusion (lol) Thanks for a thought provoking comment. Peace to you...
tim: I believe, after a time, you can KNOW, if or not they can be real friends. I believe I've gained some real friends. See? There's Buff's "perception or reality" at work!! Peace to you...
marmitetoasty: Welcome to my blog! Glad you stopped by and please come again...Peace to you...
queenie: and, to you, queenie! Welcome! Come back and visit, anytime! Peace to you...
chikenherder: I wonder. I wonder if that's the same old boy I've met before?? Peace to you...
sharon: Good luck on your 60's ranch! Me? I've always leaned towrd the 40-50's look! Maybe I'll see some pictures on your blog!!Peace to you...
tap: Oh, my! Have times changed! I'm not one for wanting to "go back" but I don't want to forget, either. It's the past that has made me what I am today. Peace to you...
