Uno has taken his first winning steps at America's top dog show.
.
The tri-colored 15-inch beagle bounded around the ring, trying to grab his leash, and easily took the best of breed at the Westminster Kennel Club's show. He advances to judging in the hound group Monday night in New York's Madison Square Garden.
.
No beagle has ever won best in show in the 100 times the award has been presented. A beagle hasn't even won the hound group since 1939.
.
But barking and baying at every chance and with his white-tipped tail wagging, 3-year-old Uno appeared to become an early crowd favorite Monday morning. Handler Aaron Wilkerson said, "He was being his merry little hound self."
.
More than 2,600 dogs are competing for top prize. Best in show will be presented Tuesday night.
No, this isn't Uno. This is our own Butch, the Beagle who can claim his breed as Champion!!
Butch isn't a renowned champion, but he could be!!
He's a champion in our lives!!
Butch, our Beagle!

Congrats to the Beagle! We watch those shows, and Airedales don't even win best of breed- so I know how you must feel! Beagles are sweeties, and I spent many hours in the woods searching for one that didn't know when to quit chasing that stupid rabbit...:)
U NEED TO COME VISIT & BRING BUTCH. HE & SHEILA CAN LAY AROUND & TALK ABOUT THEIR OPERATIONS.
Of course, Butch's reputation preceded Uno - Uno is just reaping the benefits :)
Uno won it all! He is so cute. I'm sure Butch is proud.
I've just seen that Uno won Best in Show - how exciting! My favourite quote was from his owner.
"He's what a beagle's supposed to be - he's a merry little hound. He's just the best dog I've ever had. He's my best friend."
Aw, people love their dogs, don't they?! Thanks for the good info. I didn't know those Beagle/Dog Show fun facts.
WOOT! Butch, that is great! Of course Beagles have always been great, and cute!
Buff: Poor Butch is never 'free' long enough to chase rabbits. If he ever gets outside the back yard, he's GONE...with his ears flying in the wind and his nose to the ground. We have a heck of a time chasing him down.
crabby: Poor Sheila and Butch! What a life they have to live!!
tim: What a nice thought!! Uno reaping the benefits...
neecie: In all truth, Butch probably couldn't care less! haha!
tim: I love that quote! And, it is so true that your pet dog (of whatever breed) becomes your best friend...
terry: Good to hear from you! Hope you're feeling top-notch! I'll be around to see what you've posted about "the news"!
sharon: Thanks for stopping by. Of course, WE think Beagles are the best and the cutest!
