The Porch Re-Visited

Isn't the idea of a front porch a bit archaic and not understandable by those who are younger?

"Most folks under forty today don't really know about true porches — big expansive places to sit in the shade, visit with family, drink lemonade or iced tea with neighbors, and wait for the sun to set and the house to cool down before going to bed. But as we surveyed young adults, we found that what the front porch symbolized — a place of friends and family, visiting and hanging out, a place to read or play the guitar and sing —was exactly what they knew they needed."~Phil Ware~

This afternoon I was out just walking around the house, looking at what repairs need to be made. We've been here for almost 10 years and haven't done a lot in the way of maintenance. The main reason being, in our small town, there are not that many skilled labor people. And what there are, they stay so busy it's impossible to hire them.

Anyway...I got to looking at our front porch...the reason I wanted the house. I'm still in love with my porch even with all that needs to be done in maintenance.

The following link is a post I entered a year ago (almost) on May 7

If you are a recent reader, you might enjoy visiting my front porch!

Peace to your household...

I loved the front porch at my old house. It was partially sheltered so we had protection from wind and rain and could sit out there in all weathers. It was the place we always congreated - with our newspapers, with our coffee, just to sit and talk. I miss it. My next house needs to have a porch.

crabby: We all need another visit on the porch! I'll keep the lemonade in the fridge until you get here!

tim: There's nothing like a front porch visit...or for meditation all alone. Thanks for the visit.

tammie: Oh, but girl!! You're NOT the normal, run-of-the-mill, 'hair' under forty, person!! You understand priorities of life....you're my inspiration!!
