I Lift My Lamp....

I received this picture from my youngest sister who lives in Washington State. She and her husband had been on a trip to New York when this picture was taken. In fact, it was while they were in New York that they heard the VP Debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. And just like many of us, was awestruck at how well Sarah Palin did.
I wish my sister was a blogger. She could inspire and motivate many people with her down-to-earth and witty remarks; much like Sarah.
But....
"If wishes were horses, beggars would ride". (Just an old saying I learned as a child!!)

Our statue, known affectionately as "Lady Liberty", is our symbol of freedom and democracy.

Not like the brazen giant of Greek fame,
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
"Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she
With silent lips.
"Give me your tired, your poor,Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

I feel really honored to be on your blog!!! If I'd known, I would have "spiffed" up a little!!! I don't always leave a comment but I love your blog. I always wonder--how the hell did she get so smart--we came from the same place!!! Ha-ha!! If I had a blog, there would be so many bleep-bleeps in it, no one would understand it!! Hope McCain makes some brownie points tonight!!! Deb

I have been to New York City twice and the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island are my favorite spots. I will have to say the world trade center area and the church across the street where they fed the first responders was also very moving. It all just takes your breath away... Thanks for sharing.
