The Wait...

While waiting in the waiting room of Dr. Ash's office, I listened to a conversation between two complete strangers...a man and a woman; both just a few years older than I; the woman is 72 and the man is 78.

Everyone that was waiting had been patients of Dr. Ash for many years and came prepared....newspapers to read, crossword puzzle books; knitting, crocheting, anything to pass the time...because they knew the routine. Dr. Ash takes a personal interest in each and every one of his patients and he gets in no hurry.

Everyone knew this except one man that had never seen Doc before. He started his complaining about the wait and began to "entertain" everyone else. He made what he considered to be a "cute" comment about praying to God about something he wanted and ended the prayer with "and God, I want it NOW!".

In the course of his conversation with the woman, he disclosed his career; which he had been a physicist and a world traveler. And apparently, that's all he knew. He admitted he had no knowledge of spiritual things or what is written in the Word of God. "Religion was not his thing".

The woman, on the other hand, had lost her husband, not quite a year ago and from her responses to the man, knew the Word from beginning to end. She tried to explain a few basic things to him and his reply was..."Lady, I don't know where you're coming from".

All of us waiting in that room sat there in awe!

I sit here in my safe little world, with not an overwhelming amount of contacts, and forget that there are millions of people who are in the same spiritual condition as this man. Where do they find the strength to cope with their problems? Where do they gain the Hope of better things to come without the promises of God? Where do they receive the motivation just to get out of bed each morning, especially as they begin to age and their bodies begin to deteriorate?

Thinking about the man's "so-called" prayer and wanting it NOW, It would behoove us all to pray as David did:

"Hear my voice when I call, O Lord;
be merciful to me; and answer me."

Psalm 27:7
"Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord".
Psalm 27:14
If you're not spending as much time reading God's Word as you should (or not at all) The Bell is a good place to begin. Copy, paste, and print it out and carry it with you; but above all, put your Bible reading/study at the top of your priority list!

Good post there In_spired. I once met a man who said I was a fool to believe in God. I responded with, "If I'm wrong and there is no God, I've lost a few years. If you're wrong and there is a God, you've lost an eternity."

Just before Christmas, an honest politician, a generous lawyer and Santa Claus were riding in the elevator of a very posh hotel.

Just before the doors opened they all noticed a $20 bill lying on the floor. Which one picked it up?

Santa of course, because the other two don't exist!

Two men have been sitting out on a lake all day long, ice fishing. One has been having no luck at all and the other has been pulling fish after fish out of his hole in the ice. The man having no luck finally leans over and asks the other what his secrect is.

"mmmmm mmm mm mmm mmmm mmm mmm."

"I'm sorry, what did you say?"

"mmmmm mmm mm mmm mmmm mmm mmm."

"I'm sorry, I still didn't undersftand you."

The successful man spits something into his hand. "You've got to keep your worms warm."

Bar Joke
A Really Bad Day
There was this guy at a bar, just looking at his drink. He stays like that for half of an hour.

Then, this big trouble-making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, and just drinks it all down. The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says, "Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I'll buy you another drink. I just can't stand to see a man cry."

"No, it's not that. This day is the worst of my life. First, I fall asleep, and I go late to my office. My boss, outrageous, fires me. When I leave the building, to my car, I found out it was stolen. The police said that they can do nothing. I get a cab to return home, and when I leave it, I remember I left my wallet and credit cards there. The cab driver just drives away."

"I go home, and when I get there, I find my wife in bed with the gardener. I leave home, and come to this bar. And just when I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up and drink my poison."

yea, sometimes us *christians* really don't know how bad of shape alot of people are in out there. we are busy in our churches with other believers doing *christian* things and forget how many people there are still lost. they arent gonna be in church with us, they don't care to be, we have to seek them out in the world, that is our job. i pray for this man. glad to you got to hear the conversation, its a great reminder for us all!

Inspired, you ask where they get their strength to cope with their problems? I don't think most of them do, which is why we have suicide, drug addiction and all sorts of crime. I hope this man will find God, because He is right there waiting for him.

Beautiful post.

Merry Christmas!
