We made our trip...there and back again.
On the spur of the moment, right before Christmas Eve, our plans of going in one direction (2 1/2 hour drive W) changed to a SE direction and a 9 hour drive.
To Houston.
After weeks and weeks of no moisture, God decides to bring on the showers around 1:00 a.m Christmas Eve morning. We had worked all day the day before, throwing things together and getting packages wrapped, loading the vehicle so all we would need to do was wake up, use the bathroom, brush our teeth, and throw on some clothes for the long drive.
When we were ready to leave on Friday morning, it was still raining, but having been so organized and prepared , no problem! We pulled out of our driveway at the time we set...7:00 a.m.
It rained. And it rained. And it rained!
We traveled 7 hours in driving rain, never turning off the windshield wipers...never even putting them on low speed. Finally, with only a couple of hours left in the trip, we got ahead of the rain. But by the time we reached our destination, we.were.wiped.out.!
The good news is....there are NO BURN BANS across the state of Texas!
Yes, we were tired. But the Christmas weekend with our children and grandchildren was worth every drop of rain that fell.
There's nothing like the Reason for the Season to bring calmness and peace in lives that are stressed and hectic.
