At this time yesterday, I really believed that at this time today, it would be a gorgeous afternoon. Usually, after a blighted day, God favors us with a breath-taking, beautiful day. But not so today. Just goes to prove you can’t out-guess God. We aren’t having the sand that we had yesterday but the wind is blowing a gale and has been since noon. The grandson called on his way from Amarillo and it’s blowing even harder in that area.
I had planned to get out today and take pictures of some of our new sidewalk construction. That will come later. Our town is looking so pretty with the new sidewalks and the vintage looking street lamps. Our local affiliate of Keeping Texas Beautiful is doing an outstanding job of civic improvements.
I just lost my train of thought due to a telephone call from the Birthday Boy (our son-in-law) of my previous post. He’s on his way to Amarillo to meet our daughter for a business/social event. I mentioned in the Happy Birthday post about his stories and jokes. Well…he is also the trivia king of the family. And what he can’t recall, for some reason, he thinks I can! To make a long story short, this is why he called. He wanted to know where Dory Funk, Sr. called ‘home’. He was almost sure it was Umbarger, Texas but wanted it to be confirmed. Now, Readers, keep in mind that he is driving to Amarillo where the wind is blowing much stronger than here in Munday. I would feel sure that he needed both hands on the steering wheel but …NO! He had his cell phone in his hand talking to me about Dory Funk, Sr.! As it turned out, yes, Dory Funk, Sr. had claimed Umbarger as home…having purchased a ranch there. But, his birthplace was in Indiana.
The family has always teased Al about being born in the wrong time. He was born in 1958, spent his teen age years during the 70's and yet, knows the lyrics to every 50’s song that was ever recorded…also, the recording artist of each , and also the recording company of each.
Well…you can tell it’s been a slow day when I begin blogging about the son-in-law. I hope the other daughter and son-in-law don’t read this until I write about Jeff. He is also a ‘one-of-a-kind’ and I have just as much to say about him…only at a later time.
Maybe next post will be back to “Munday Happenings”. God Bless until then.
