As part of my “come alive” routine when I get up in the morning to let the dogs out of their kennels, make coffee, feed dogs, let them go back outside, drink coffee, turn on the computer, I sit down to see if Sis From the USA has entered a new post on her blog, Small Town, USA.
Yes, there it was….a new post, "Then and Now".Her post brought back memories of 1985 when we allowed our youngest daughter (Queen, mother of Aurora and Philip!!) to go on a college based cultural studies trip to Greece. Not only did we ‘allow’ her to go, we worked our cans off to finance it. We were thrilled that she was getting the opportunity to see another part of the world.
Little did we know the worry and stress that this trip would cause us. The year was June, 1985.…the year of the TWA hi-jacking of Flight 874 in Athens and the bombing of the Frankfort, Germany airport.
Queen wasn’t on this flight but her flight did have to leave Athens and had a layover in Frankfort. (if my memory serves me correctly) I’ll never forget hearing some Congressman on CNN make the statement, “Any American walking through the Athens airport is taking their life in their own hands!”
After two weeks of worry and wringing of hands, the college group made it back home. The funny thing about all this is that the students had heard nothing about what was going on during the time they were in Greece! I feel sure that the sponsors knew but didn’t share it with the students.
I was blessed again at Sis’s quoting of Jeremiah 29:11.

Wow, that's trust...trusting in the One who holds our tomorrow.
only a parent can know what you were feeling.I know my dad hardly ever slept while I was in Nam. So I can't imagine how the loved ones of the men & woman made it during W.W. two.
chikenherder
I think it's great you supported your daughter when she wanted to travel. That's my dream...to see the world! sis from the usa
