The Breath of God

Joel 1:19-20 (NIV) A Call to Repentance

"To you, O Lord, I call,
for fire has devoured the open pastures
and flames have burned up all the trees of the field.

Even the wild animals pant for you;
the streams of water have dried up
and fire has devoured the open
pastures."

(an e-mail I received soon after the fire started)

This fire started about noon on Friday, March 14, 2008. A disabled car pulled off Hwy. 82/114 where the fire was started.

At 9 PM the fire might be 20 miles wide moving toward Benjamin, and SE after crossing 82/114.

In spite of hugh man power and equipment it seems unstoppable. The wind shifted to W -NW at about 15 MPH. Could it go to I 20?

Earlier this morning, we drove north and west of our hometown to see how wide-spread the fire had been. These are just a few of the pictures that tell the story.

This is the picture that was sent with the e-mail.

Smoldering and scorched at
8:00 a.m this morning, March 15.

Small fires still burning.

What we saw was just a minute portion of the acreage that has been lost. Even our remote area isn't exempt from the ravages of fire and disaster. I couldn't help but think that throughout our world, mankind is being given a preview of what is to come through disaster after disaster. And our fire has been minor compared to others.
The Word of God tells us that he destroyed mankind with the great flood waters. It looks like next time it will be by fire.

Blessings to your household...

We "all" need to become alert and aware of our Father's words and warnings....But I truly BELIEVE...with the abrupt calming of the wind and then the slowing and sudden meekness of the fire ...so meek in fact, the firefighters were sent home til the morning.....the prayers of sooo many through out the area were answered.....The sweet breath of "GOD"perhaps?????????

Yes, I believe God did breathe his sweet breath upon our area in that the fire didn't do more damage. But I believe He's trying to get the attention of "all" people. How long will it take? Will He be as generous next time?

I appreciate your comment! (wish you had identified yourself...)

Winds from heaven

Inspired, thanks for another good post. In ref to fires and their movement, last year during the California fires, we were in the line of fire of one of the big ones, we were expecting the fire to reach our area the next day by noon [I was ready to make a stand and protect my property, I was not going to run, leaving everything behind for the bad citizens living around us], but then during the night the winds shifted and pushed the fire in the opposite direction. Miracles do happen. Have a fine Texas weekend.

Goodness at those photos...... I have a great fear of fire.... and each night I have this 'thing' I have to turn off and unplug everything that dont need to be plugged in over night.....

And we often go through how to get out the house if there was a fire, with my sons and the minded kids.... 2 of my sons bedrooms are in the attic and so we have practised climbing out their roof windows and shimmying along the roof ridge lol......

I cant imagine those huge forest fires that happen in the states.....

peace.......

got a report from a Benjaminite that 45,000 acres were lost. twenty-one calves died. and it came within six miles of Benjamin. wow!

we got word to put the situation on the prayer chain when the winds shifted and firefighters (14 departments were working this fire) were endangered by it. then, later reports indicated that everyone was ok and that the fire lost it's momentum when it was trying to burn where it already had burned.

God is huge and His ways are not ours, so trying to figure Him out is impossible. But, I'm, like you, giving Him the glory for snuffin' this one OUT.

janie: I've been hearing news of fires in your area also! Today (Monday) we have 70% chance of TS. I do pray that we're ALL drenched!

tammie: Thanks for your report. I hadn't heard details. Yes...God IS huge...and dumb us....we're *always* trying to outguess him!

Mr. Tap: Thanks for your note of concern. The whole incident has just made us all aware that "we're not exempt".
