Puppets on Strings

I woke up early this morning...awake but not ready to crawl out of the warm bed. Laying there, my mind began to wander back over the past year. It seems like our world has had it's share of problems, all exploding basically at the same time. Of course, I know it takes years of neglect, being uninformed, relying too much on "second-hand' information, and extreme cases of self centeredness that culminate into the problems we've seen: politically, socially, spiritually, educationally, economically, militarily, etc. etc.

From where did the following come from? I don't know. It just popped into my mind. I've never even been an Aaron Tippin fan. In the early 1990's, Aaron Tippin recorded a good old country/western song called "If You Don't Stand For Something, You'll Fall For Anything".
I didn't give it much thought at the time but I realize at this time in my life what truth it holds. Here are the googled lyrics if you're not familiar; Aaron Tippin/Buddy Brock:

Now Daddy didn't like trouble, but if it came along
Everyone that knew him knew which side that he'd be on
He never was a hero, or this county's shinin' light
But you could always find him standing up
For what he thought was right
He'd say you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
You've got to be your own man not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what's right and uphold your family name
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
Now we might have been better off or owned a bigger house
If Daddy had done more givin' in or a little more backing down
But we always had plenty just living his advice
Whatever you do today you'll have to sleep with tonight
He'd say you've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
You've got to be your own man not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what's right and uphold your family name
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
Now I know that things are different than they were in Daddy's days
But I still believe what makes a man really hasn't changed
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
You've got to be your own man not a puppet on a string
Never compromise what's right and uphold your family name
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything
You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything

***************

I've heard so many times during the past year ...

"It's not my problem...let someone else fix it"

" I have my own problems. I can't go around trying to fix someone else's problems."

"This doesn't effect me. Why should I care?"

My prayer is that in 2009, people will gain a fervor and passion and begin to stand for something...holding firm to what's right and upholding family names.

Just my early morning thoughts on January 2, 2009! Peace to your household...

Inspired with prayer maybe the slackers in the USA will start to stand up for something right . They already fell for anything. As my dear old Grandma told me son if You sleep with dogs ,You will get fleas

HAPPY NEW YEAR, Inspired! Yes, wouldn't it be wonderful if everyone would stand for something? Far too many go through each day without even considering standing for something. I hope that changes and I hope it changes soon. Apathy is a killer!

If each one of us stood up for what we believed in than it will spread
Thats a good thought.

Im always standing up for the little people (not midgets) and the underdogs, always have a wide shoulder to carry things that others struggle with, always have an open heart and door to those that need it and I have HUGE dumbo ears to listen with....

I never see others stuff as just their problems.... a problem shared is a problem halved....

another aaron tippin song

dad would say can't never could do nothin'
And weights what broke the wagon
There ain't no fence between right or wrong
Sometimes you gotta fight if you wanna get along
You better stand up when that flag gets raised
Or down on your knees when it's time to pray
But the greatest thing about him to me
Was the fact that he believed

Chorus:
He believed in the good Lord above
A straight shootin rifle and the power of love
He believed in why the blood was shed
And if he couldn't be free he'd rather be dead
And to never give up on your dreams
But most of all yeah most of all he believed in me

Well he had his own opinion
About the world and its condition
Spare the rod spoil the child
You'll reap what you sow if you let it grow wild
You just gotta deal with the hand you're dealt
Never give up and you'll never really fail
But the greatest thing about dad to me
Was the fact that he believed

Repeat Chorus

Bridge:
Oh and just because of him I know who I am today
And just because of that I know where he's gone to stay

Repeat Chorus

did aaron tippin write this song about your home town?

Well if you ask me where I come from
Here's what I tell everyone
I was born by God's dear grace
In an extraordinary place
Where the stars and stripes and the eagle fly

It's a big 'ol land with countless dreams
Happiness ain't out of reach
Hard work pays off the way it should
Yeah, I've seen enough to know that we've got it good
Where the stars and stripes and the eagle fly

There's a lady that stands in a harbor
For what we believe
And there's a bell that still echoes
The price that it cost to be free

I pledge allegiance to this flag
And if that bothers you, well that's too bad
But if you got pride and you're proud you do
Hey, we could use some more like me and you
Where the stars and stripes and the eagle fly

Yes there's a lady that stands in a harbor
For what we believe
And there's a bell that still echoes
The price that it cost to be free

No, it ain't the only place on earth
But it's the only place that I prefer
To love my wife and raise my kids
Hey, the same way that my daddy did
Where the stars and stripes and the eagle fly

Where the stars and stripes and the eagle...fly
Where the stars and stripes and the eagle fly

Artist: Montgomery Gentry
Song: My Town

There's a "For Sale" sign on a big old rusty tractor.
You can't miss it, it's the first thing that you see.
Just up the road, a pale-blue water tower,
With "I Love Jenny" painted in bright green.
Hey, that's my Uncle Bill, there by the courthouse.
He'll be lowerin' the flag when the sun goes down.
And this is my town.

(Na, na, na, na, na.)
Yeah, this is my town.
(Na, na, na, na, na.)
Hey!
Where I was born, where I was raised.
Where I keep all my yesterdays.
Where I ran off 'cos I got mad,
An' it came to blows with my old man.
Where I came back to settle down,
It's where they'll put me in the ground:
This is my town.
(Na, na, na, na, na.)
Yeah, this is my town.
(Na, na, na, na, na.)
My town.

There ain't much goin' on here since they closed the mill.
But that whistle still blows ev'ry day at noon.
A bunch of us still go down to the diner.
I wonder if that interstate's still comin' through.
Come Sunday morning service, at the Church of Christ,
Well there ain't an empty seat to be found.
And this is my town.

(Na, na, na, na, na.)
Yeah, this is my town.
(Na, na, na, na, na.)
My town.

Well, I bought and painted up that rusty tractor.
You can't miss it, it's sittin' right there in our yard.
The County came and took that water tower,
And that's Jenny, with a baby, in the car.
Ah, we're off to Sunday service at the Church of Christ,
And if we want a seat, we better leave right now.
And maybe later, me an old T-roy will show you around,
Our town.

(Na, na, na, na, na.)
Yeah, this is my town.
(Na, na, na, na, na.)
Yeah, where I was born, where I was raised.

This is my town.
(Na, na, na, na, na.)
My town.
